  1. I need to see something from Texas before I believe they’re deserving of a national title game spot, after the way they’ve played the last few years.

    • Texas returns its entire Offensive line, its quarterback, it top running backs, and four of its top five receivers on offense. They averaged 36 points per game last year, and with the returning talent, they will average 40-45 points per game this year.

The Longhorn defense will be much improved with 20 of the top 22 back, including the best tandem of ends in the league; three top-notch linebackers; and three very good defensive backs. The schedule could not be any better for UT. A laugher to open the season against New Mexico St. should be something like 66-7. Week two at BYU will be a test, but the Cougars’ defense will not stop Texas–‘Horns win 38-23. Week 3 at home against Ole Miss will be very exciting, but Texas has too much offense against the Rebels. Look for a 45-27 win. Week four at home against reloading Kansas St., and UT goes 4-0 in September with a 41-20 win.

After a week off, an easy road win on Thursday night at Iowa St. 52-17, sets up the Red River Shootout. UT gets an extra three days to prepare, and OU comes off a tough game against TCU following a road game at Notre Dame. Burnt Orange beats Crimson 35-24. Then, UT gets another week off to prepare for TCU who must play at Oklahoma St. the week before. Texas proves too tough for the Frogs and wins 31-13. At the end of October, they are now 7-0.

November starts with an easy blowout of Kansas 56-17. A trip to West Virginia is a trap game, but UT has too much strength and runs over WVU 44-20. Oklahoma State comes to Austin, and the home field advantage helps UT stay undefeated in the game that decides the Big 12 title. Texas wins 45-38.

A third bye week gives the Longhorns time to recoup for a Thanksgiving game against Texas Tech. UT cruises 49-20. The finale at Baylor is tight for a quarter and a half, but Texas takes control with power and breakaway plays to win 44-24 and finish 12-0.

We still believe Alabama is the best team in the league, but the SEC is too hard for any team to go 13-0 this year. The only way to stop an 8-peat is to have two other teams at the top of the BCS Standings. So, Texas and Stanford emerge at 12-0 and 13-0, and ‘Bama is left out at 12-1.

That is just our prognostication. It can be totally off base, but the last time we picked Texas to win the title, it was 2005. They made us look good.
